What is P2402 fault code and why does it matter? What’s the reason for the high error code Evaporative Emission System Pump Control Circuit Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit? How can you fix the P2402 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P2402 error code?
What is the P2402? What is the Fault Code? What does it signify?
The evaporative emissions system (EVAP), prevents fuel vapors being released into the atmosphere. Fuel vapors can be stored through pipes and hoses in a part called a Canister Canister. If the engine is in operation and there are suitable conditions, the relief valve opens. The fuel vapors then get absorbed into the engine to be burned.
The EVAP system is a self diagnostic system that performs a range of tests to detect and prevent leaks. The powertrain control module (PCM), which controls the powertrain, checks the leak detection pump LDP for mechanical and electrical failures. LDP serves the main purpose of pressurizing the fuel system to prevent leakage. The PCM closes and pumps air to the fuel system.
The current in the EVAP pump detection pump is monitored continuously by the PCM. The PCM stores the P2402 fault code and activates the check engine lamp if it detects that the pump has not been activated upon request.
There are many vehicles that can be affected by the P2402 fault code, including, but not limited, to Toyota, BMW and Porsche models as well as Volkswagen, Mazdas, Land Rovers (Ferrari, Land Rover), Audi, Mini Maseratis Subaru, Ssangyongs Volvo, Lexus and Mercedes Benz models.
What is the P2402 Fault Code and Why Does It Happen?
Here are some reasons why P2402 should be set.
- – Frayed or damaged wires and loose connectors to the leak detection pump sensing system
- – Defective EVAP control valve or pump for leak detection
- – Defective solenoid or EVAP vent
- – Filter clogged in EVAP leak detection pump
- – Clogged EVAP System
- – Leaks in EVAP systems
- – Fuel tank cap incorrectly or deficiently installed
- – Broken or clogged canister canister
- Broken or cracked fuel vapor or vacuum hoses
- – Defective EVAP pressure sensor
- – A blown fuse or faulty relay to the power relay for the leak detection pump.
- – A PCM that is not working properly or needs a software upgrade (rarely).
What are the symptoms for P2402 Fault Code
These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the P2402 code.
- – Illumination for check engine light
- – Sometimes, there might be a strong odor of fuel
- – Slight decrease in engine performance
- – A slight rise in fuel consumption
- – Other fault codes can be set
How to Fix the P2402 Fault Code
The following repairs may be able to resolve the P2402 fault code:
- – Repair damaged cables and replacement of loose or rusty connectors
- – Replacing a faulty leak detection system and/or clogged filters
- How to replace a damaged canister canister
- – Replacing a defective pressure control valve
- – Replacing a faulty EVAP control solenoid
- – Replacing a faulty EVAP Pressure Sensor
- – Inspect the fuel tank cap and replace it if it is damaged.
- – Detection and repair of leaks in the EVAP System
- – Repairing or cleaning clogged, cracked, or damaged EVAP system tubing
- – Relay and fuse checking, if necessary, replacement
- – If the PCM is defective, reprogramming or replacement (rarely)
How Serious Is the P2402 Fault Code
The code’s severity is moderate. The code will not cause any abnormalities in the car’s driving ability, but harmful gases will be released to the atmosphere. This could result in you failing the exhaust emission test.
