What is the P2404 fault number? What is the Evaporative Emission System Pump Sense Circuit Range / Performance Error Code? How do I fix the P2404 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P2404 error code?

What is the P2404? What is Fault Code? What does it signify?

The evaporative emissions system (EVAP), prevents fuel vapors being released into the atmosphere. Through hoses or pipes, fuel vapors are stored in an element called a canister container. The relief valve opens when the engine is running, and the fuel vapors are sucked in to the engine to be burned.

The EVAP system is a self-diagnostic device that performs a range of tests to detect and prevent leaks. The powertrain control module (PCM), which controls the powertrain, checks the leak detection pump LDP for mechanical and electrical failures. LDP’s main function is to pressure the fuel system for leak prevention. The PCM closes and pumps air to pressurize system. The PCM stores fault code number P2404 and activates check engine light if there is a leakage in the system.

Vessels susceptible to fault code P2404 include but aren’t limited to various models of Audi and Suzuki, Subaru Mazda, Mazda, Ssangyong Volvo, Hyundai Mini, Volkswagen Mercedes Benz BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, Land Rover, Porsche and Land Rover.

What is the P2404 Fault Code and Why Does It Happen?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P2404:

  • – Frayed or damaged wires and loose connectors to the leak detection pump sensing system
  • – A defective EVAP pump or control valve
  • – Defective solenoid or EVAP vent
  • – Leak detection pump filter clogged
  • – Clogged EVAP System
  • – Leaks in EVAP systems
  • – Fuel tank cap incorrectly or deficiently installed
  • – Canister canisters that are clogged or broken
  • Broken or cracked fuel vapor or vacuum hoses
  • – Defective EVAP pressure sensor
  • – A PCM that is not working properly or needs a software upgrade (rarely).

What are the symptoms of P2404 Fault code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P2404:

  • – Illumination for check engine light
  • – Sometimes, there might be a strong odor of fuel
  • – Slight decrease in engine performance
  • – A slight increase in fuel consumption

How to Fix the P2404 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P2404 fault code:

  • Repair of damaged cables, replacement of loose, rusty connections
  • – Replacing a faulty leak detection system and/or clogged filters
  • Repairing a defective canister canister
  • – Replacing a damaged pressure control valve
  • – Replacing a faulty EVAP purge controller solenoid
  • – Replacing a faulty EVAP sensor
  • – Replace the fuel tank cap if damaged.
  • – Detecting leaks and repairing them in the EVAP System
  • – Clean or replace clogged, cracked or broken EVAP tubing
  • – Repairing or replacing the defective PCM (rarely).

How Serious Is the P2404 Fault Coding?

This code is moderately severe. The code will not cause any abnormalities in the car’s driving ability, but harmful gases will be released to the atmosphere. This could result in you failing the exhaust emission test.
