What is the P2714 fault number? What is the explanation for Pressure Control Solenoid “D” Performance / Stuck in Off Position error code? How can you fix P2714 fault? What are the causes and symptoms of the P2714 error code?
What is the P2714? What is Fault Code What does it mean?
What does the P2714 code mean? “Pressure Control Solenoid C Stuck in Performance/Off” . This code is used to diagnose trouble with modern automatic transmission vehicles. If the transmission control module or powertrain control module detects an issue with the solenoid D, a code P2714 will be generated. This means that the solenoid has stopped working or is stuck in an off position.
Automatic transmissions usually contain at least three solenoids: A, B and C. Trouble codes are P2713 to P2714, P2715 and P2716 for the “D” solenoid.
Transmission control solenoids are responsible for controlling hydraulic fluid pressure so that the automatic transmission can function properly. The TCM/PCM relies on data from many sensors to determine the pressure of the hydraulic circuits. This allows the PCM to adjust the gear ratios as needed and direct the transmission fluid to the hydraulic circuits. Based on the pressure in the solenoids, the PCM receives an electric signal. Shifter bands and clutches control the automatic transmission, which provides fluid pressure at the correct place at the right moment. When the pressure control solenoid D is not working correctly or is stuck in “Off”, the PCM sets code P2714.
There are many vehicles that fall prey to the P2714 fault code, including, but not limited, to Toyota, GMC and Volkswagen models.
What causes the P2714 fault code?
Below are some reasons to set fault code P2714:
- – Defective “D” pressure control solenoid
- – Corroded cables and loose connectors
- – Low or dirty transmission fluid
- – A dirty or clogged transmission filter
- – Transmission pump problems
- Problems with the hydraulic control unit for transmission
- – Internal transmission malfunction
- – TCM/PCM needs software updates or is faulty
What are the symptoms of P2714 Fault code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P2714:
- – Illumination and control of the check engine light
- Autoshift issues
- Transmission can be locked in any gear
- While in gear, the vehicle might not move.
- – Gearbox slip
- – The gearbox is overheated
- Engine stalling
- – Misfire-like symptoms
- – Increased fuel consumption
- – Vehicle can enter failsafe Mode
- – Other fault codes can be set
How to Fix the P2714 Fault Code
The following repairs may be able to resolve the P2714 fault code:
- – Repair damaged cables or replace loose, rusty connections
- – Replacing/topping up dirty or missing transmission fluid/filter
- – Replacing a damaged pressure control solenoid
- – Transmission fluid leak repair
- – Cleansing clogged fluid channels
- – Replacing your transmission hydraulic control system
- – Replacing a defective transmission pump
- – Repair internal transmission malfunctions
- – Replacing the TCM/PCM faulty or updating software
How serious is the P2714 Fault code?
This code is usually moderately severe but can rapidly escalate to more serious levels if it is not addressed promptly. The on-board computer may not be able to control the pressure solenoid properly, causing the transmission to miss, shift improperly, overheat, and eventually stall. This code should be fixed as soon possible to avoid further transmission damage.
