Why does the ABS warning light come on? What should you do if your ABS warning light turns on? What is ABS? What does the ABS system do? What does ABS do?

What is ABS? What is ABS?

ABS stands for Anti-Lock Braking System. This system is used to stop wheels locking up under sudden braking. The wheels lock up when the brakes are applied suddenly on slippery surfaces. This causes the vehicle to slide. The vehicle continues to move and loses directional stability, steering control, and steering control. The driver attempts to stop the vehicle using intermittent brake pumping. This will allow the vehicle to continue its direction and steering control, but it will also extend the stopping distance. This ABS system was created to avoid all of these problems.

The ABS light on your indicator lamp will be illuminated if the system is disabled because of a malfunction.

Even if your vehicle’s normal brakes work well, the antilocking system (ABS), will not function in the event of sudden brakes. Additionally, the vehicle’s Stability Control System/VSA (ESP/VSA) and Traction Control System/ASR/TCS (ASR/TCS) will be disabled. These systems are the same as the ABS system’s wheel speed sensors.

These features are available on all new models of vehicles starting in 2012 and higher. These features are also available on older models as well as higher-end vehicles. Since 2013, passenger vehicles sold in the USA must include ABS.

The ABS light is activated for a brief time every time your vehicle stops or starts. It is sometimes depicted with brackets on either side of the circle, or as an “ABS” symbol. The color of the light can be yellow, amber, orange. If the light does NOT go out, it means that something is wrong with the system.

What is the ABS System?

ABS prevents wheels from locking by adjusting the brake pressures. The ECU monitors the wheel rotation speed with sensors attached to each wheel. The ECU will detect if one wheel is slower than the other during braking. This can cause the vehicle’s stability to be compromised and the driver loses control. ABS is activated quickly in this situation and assists the driver to control steering and braking. ABS performs its task in these situations by “pumping” the brakes several times per second. ABS regulates the brake pressure independently for each of the four wheels.

Why Does the ABS Light On?

  • – Blown fuse
  • – Dirty or defective speed sensors
  • – Broken cables between the ABS Control Unit’s sensors and the sensors
  • – Defective ABS Control Unit
  • – Low brake fluid (some models have an ABS fluid reservoir).

It also includes a pump with a valve that adjusts the brake fluid pressure to each tire to prevent them from locking. These parts can cause an ABS warning lamp to go on if they are damaged.

What should I do when the ABS light turns on?

Do not panic if you see the ABS light come on, but not the red brake goose light. Take your vehicle to a safe location and stop it. The light will go off if there is another problem. You should see a mechanic if your ABS light continues to turn on. You should drive slowly and carefully until you reach a mechanic. Avoid abrupt and forceful braking.

You should stop driving if the ABS warning light and red brake light come on simultaneously. If this happens, your brakes might not be holding and you should call a tow truck to have your vehicle tow to a mechanic.
