Why does the AdBlue® fault light come on? What is the reason for the Diesel Exhaust Fluid(DEF / Diesel Exhaust Fluid), fault light to appear? What happens if you ignore the AdBlue® warning light? …..
Diesel exhaust fluid, also called AdBlue®, helps to break down the toxic nitrogen oxide (NOx) in the exhaust gases from the engine. It makes exhaust gases cleaner and safer for humans by reducing their emissions.
Why Does the AdBlue® Warning Light come on?
A warning light is located on most vehicles that warns them that they have run out of diesel exhaust fluid. This warning light is similar to the ones that alert you that there are low fuel or windshield fluid. The on-board computer performs routine checks when the ignition is turned on. This light will stay on for approximately 10 seconds. The malfunction light will flash continuously if the diesel exhaust fluid reaches a critical level. The AdBlue tank is empty if the flashing light appears. The AdBlue light will remain on until the fluid container is filled.
What Happens If You Ignore the AdBlue® Warning Light?
Your vehicle’s computer, PCM/ECM/ECU, is programmed to constantly monitor emissions levels in terms legal and environmental safety. It also informs the driver if there are any adverse events. It monitors the level of diesel emission fluid and activates the warning lights if there is a shortage.
The PCM will switch your vehicle to reduced power mode if the Adblue level drops below a set point. Your vehicle will have a legal and safe emission value. However, engine performance will be greatly reduced. You may need to call for help if you are unable to refill your tank or have a long distance to go. The Adblue tank must be refilled or your vehicle will not start.
It is simple to turn off the Adblue warning lights. You only need to check the repository regularly and replenish it if necessary. AdBlue is normally filled as part of routine maintenance. You can also fill the AdBlue yourself. AdBlue filling stations are available at some gas stations. It is also possible to purchase it from an outside source and store it in your car’s trunk. You should only use AdBlue fluid if your vehicle still has warranty. If you do not, your vehicle could be out of warranty. Check that AdBlue packaging contains ISO 22241.
